Part of creating a secure local food system is creating local business opportunities around growing food. Urban farmers are starting profitable produce operations on as little as 1/8 acre in their back-yards, selling direct to neighbors and restaurants. Suburban and rural farmers are finding that low-input intensive farming can be profitable and attractive for new farmers as well. Our Teaching Farm is home to Incubator Farmers, newcomers to the agricultural life! Beginning farmers receive mentoring, and access to tools, and small plots of land on the Tryon Road Teaching Farm, in exchange for volunteer work on the farm.
