Using Pear Ester to Monitor Codling Moth in Sex Pheromone Treated Orchards

Alan Knight, Richard Hilton, Philip Van Buskirk and, Douglas Light (February, 2006)
    Summary

Traps baited with a pear ester lure have several advantages when monitoring codling moth in sex pheromone treated orchards: tracking female flight patterns, improving prediction of first egg hatch, and using action thresholds to optimize a spray program. This publication tells how to determine sex of codling moth, monitor orchards, and use temperature and degree-day data to estimate codling moth egg hatch. Includes diagrams for trap design and placement, and sources of further information.
