    Pruning Lowbush Blueberry Fields

    Tom DeGomez (February, 1988)
    Summary

It is believed that Native Americans periodically burned off the trees and shrubs of the eastern Maine sand plains to stimulate blueberry production. Today, lowbush blueberry growers have found that periodic pruning, by fire or mowing, can stimulate higher yields. This bulletin discusses timing, thermal pruning and mower pruning; includes cost chart.
