The philosophy and methods of organic farming have been practiced in the United States for more than a century. In 1990, the U.S. Congress passed the Organic Food Production Act, which requires the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to develop, implement, and administer national standards for the production, handling, and labeling of organic agricultural products.
