Marketing Feeder Cattle With A Price Slide

    Walt Prevatt (July, 1993)
    Summary

In the past, the most difficult aspect of marketing feeder cattle was accurately estimating weight. Because lighter feeder cattle typically sell for a higher price per hundredweight, a price slide was developed to help the buyer and seller avoid over- or under-estimating the actual weight. The price slide allows the bid price to be adjusted up or down based on the difference between the estimated and the actual pay weights of feeder cattle.
