Fire blight, caused by the bacterium Erwinia amylovora, is a common and destructive disease of pear, apple, quince, hawthorn, firethorn, cotoneaster, and mountain ash. Many other members of the rose plant family as well as several stone fruits are also susceptible to this disease.
