Figuring out which labor and employment laws apply to your workers can be difficult. Both the federal and Minnesota state laws have special exemptions that may mean you do not have to comply with a particular law. This publication is a general overview of how these laws and exceptions all fit together and are likely to apply to family-run specialty crop (fruit and vegetable) operations that gross less than $500,000 per year and rely extensively on family labor. Many minority and immigrant farming families with deep agricultural traditions fall into this category.
