Commercial cow-calf producers in Texas have traditionally had three marketing options: livestock commission companies (auction barns), private treaty sales, or retained ownership (stockers/feeders). Some bull or heifer calves are sold for herd replacements but most are placed on wheat or other forage pasture for conditioning prior to going to the feedlot to be finished.
