Bryan Jensen, University of Wisconsin Integrated Pest Management Program, takes you into the field to show you how to scout and manage alfalfa weevil in Wisconsin field crops. Check time to scout (300 DD) at this website, http://www.soils.wisc.edu/uwex_agwx/t... Scout by walking a "W" pattern and picking 50 stems at random. Evaluate for pinhole or lacing type feeding damage on the leaves on each stem. Threshold is reached if 40% or more of the collected stems show tip feeding. Management may be achieved by harvesting early or control recommended in UWEX publication A3646 Pest Management in Wisconsin Field Crops. Fields with high damage should be checked during regrowth for green up. For more information: http://labs.russell.wisc.edu/cullenlab/ http://datcpservices.wisconsin.gov/pb/ http://learningstore.uwex.edu/Pest-Ma... or your local UWEX agent Please excuse the typo of the word larva at 0:20 in our video.
