All over the USA, more and more people want to raise poultry- whether standard or heritage breeds of birds, in urban backyard settings, or on small farms that seek to improve profitability by selling eggs or broilers. This short course is designed to help the class participants raise poultry (mainly chickens) successfully, whether as a backyard hobbyist or as a small commercial operation. We’ll discuss the very basics of getting started with chicks, of finishing broilers and managing laying hens. Breeds, nutrition, housing, and predators, all will be included in the discussion.
